She can't sing a note, but often answers in song because isn't there a song for just about everything? Negative 1 DNF Star

Don't speak? More like Don't Read 🤮🤮

Negative -1000 Stars for a dumb book that I regret reading because of how mad it made me 😅 dnfed at around 50ish% because the hero and book was just getting more gross.

It was super hard to connect with the characters, probably due to the 3rd POV and how young the characters are. It did start off cute and then went downhill as they were getting older and sweet Aiden became disgusting. I only got to halfway, but the heroine and hero were technically together already and then i guess broke up? Idk their relationship was confusing. The writing was pretty cheesy though, and unnecessarily confusing seeing as there were constant POV and time changes with no details at the beginning of the chapter so you kind of have to guess it yourself.

Anyways, hero does the typical douche thing of letting heroine walk in on him getting a BJ. Then about halfway in, he gets his d**k pierced and has sex with the girl who pierced it, and then a 4some with his friends and her. Mind you these are all DESCRIPTIVE scenes with ow. Also he is supposedly super in love with the heroine right now and cant stop thinking about it (even when hes putting his dick in other women because WHAT A BOOK BOYFRIEND) but since shes mad at him it's totally okay if he still is having sex with OWs until she forgives him (basically in his own words too) 🙃🤮🤮🤮🤮 ROMANCE LADIES AND GENTS

Safety: ya not safe at all

Cheating? Yes, seeing as they were already together and in love and then he starts sleeping with ow after and got a bj in front of her

Ow drama- yup. Multiple. With VERY descriptive scenes that i wish i never read 🤮

Om drama- not really

Sigh. OW spoilers (which is why I won’t read it)

The H “can’t” be with the h for *reasons* and is super upset about it… so upset he has to make do with getting his d!ck sucked by OW, f*cks tons of OW, classmates, his boss, strippers, even had a 4-some with colleagues AFTER H and h are getting physical. Man. He’s suffering so much. POOR GUY 🙄
Oh… the h remained a virgin… pining away.
FFS 🙄

ETA- thanks to the gracious Audie for reading this and figuring out that they probably didn’t even use condoms during the foursome. And the H keeps wanting to have more sex in this foursome. Just rest and stick it in. Oh and by the end, the OW in the foursome remains friends with the H

I read Don’t Speak a week ago and accurately to the author’s work; I am still here thinking of how the story unfolds. Don’t Speak is a masterpiece. Its raw, emotional, and beautiful. I’m tearing up writing this review. The story is just so beautiful.

Aidan doesn’t speak from a traumatic event from his past, and Molly Sees and understands him. These two are best friends until they’re not. It’s a roller-coaster of events.

Molly and Aidan’s story started when the two became step-siblings at a young age, and we read their journey until adulthood. These two have a deep connection and understanding of each other. Their love is pure and ready to blossom. But with every love story their significant hurdles they need to endure.

I loved all the little bits from the Red Door series added to the book. If there is one book not to miss reading, this is the one. I will add to have tissues on hand. And be prepared to be captivated from the start. I read this book in one sitting.

Another one bites the dust!

As if we don't already have enough books wherein the H can't have the h he's "super in love with" for "certain reasons", so he fucks all other women woohoo pussy galore! And the best part? Of course... the h stays a virgin and gives her virginity to the one and only H. Oh and we even get a bonus very detailed and graphic foursome of the H with OW and OM which the H wanted to do over and over again, since the author was feeling generous. Also, I don't even think they used condoms all-throughout; it was mentioned being used during their first round but they went at it a couple more times that same day and there was no mention of condoms being used the next time they went at it the H was just said to shove it in after resting a bit so yuck? STD's galore as well! And this happened AFTER the H and the h started hooking up/getting physical. Oh, and they all stay close friends until the end by the way, all participants of this splendid foursome (I almost DNF this trainwreck but ended up just skimming the last 40% and still felt nothing but aggravation). CAN AUTHORS PLS MOVE ON FROM THIS SICKENING TROPE ALREADY, K THANKS BYE.

Another book where "hero" believes he can't be with the heroine for reasons that basically cease to exist when he realises that she might leave and have an actual life without him or give her virginity to someone else meanwhile he screws as often as possible including his boss/business partner in a foursome who then somehow becomes close to them as a couple(skimmed that part). The girl obviously gets pregnant right out of high school and I'm guessing is fine with not having any experiences or becoming a mommy before she can even legally drink like a regular woman and not a fictional one.
You need new stuff!!!

I think this is the kind of book that you'll either love it or hate it. Guess which side I fell into?

I can't express the fury I have while reading this book, especially the first half. I hate. HATE. when a guy said he's so besotted and in love with someone and yet proceeded to sink his dick in everything that moves (because feelingsss).

And can someone explain why is there a foursome scene between our hero and his three other coworkers at halfway mark of the book? It's not even a brief mention of the whole scene. It was detailed as hell and colour me confused because for the life of me, I don't know why that whole chapter was even necessary.

And let's not even talk about how pathetic our girl was. Our hero (her stepbrother btw) paraded his girlfriend all over her and she still going Gaga over him and quickly forgave him after all the years of heartache and betrayal he gave her.

Suffice to say, I didn't have a good time with this book.

I sympathized with the H so much. Poor thing couldn't have the love of his life, so he had to make do with OW sucking his dick and fucking his brains out.Classmates, exotic dancers, his boss. Especially, when the foursome happened I wanted to cry my eyes out🤣🤣🤣
And of course our h stays a virgin 🤣🤣🤣
This trope virgin h/fuckboy H is getting a bit old. What, no?

oh wow this was terrible. hero was a loser heroine was even a bigger loser for pining and staying a virgin while he was manwh0ring and the s3x scenes felt very robotic i just couldn’t connect with anything. and i also never understood how heroines always stay friends with the hero’s fvck bodies it’s icky and not cute at all. this repetitive pattern is the reason why na is failing miserably

“It wasn’t wrong to think about her, was it? She’s your sister. Not by blood, but it didn’t matter anyway. Molly could never be his, though he secretly wished that someday, when they were older, that she could.”

Don’t Speak, by Dyan Layne shredded my heart and put it back together again in the end. This forbidden stepbrother romance was equally addictive and unputdownable. Aidan and Molly were perfectly imperfect characters in a heartbreaking situation dealing with childhood trauma and loss. Go into this story blind and experience all the feels. I didn’t want this story to end and wished it wasn’t a standalone. It was that good! One-click worthy.

2 ‘What happened here?’ Stars

Seriously, what happened?

When I read the blurb and saw that the heroine “loved him [H] the mostest”, I expected a romance so syrupy sweet that I’d be getting a toothache. Well, call me a sap because I was ready for all the feels. It was off to a good start when the MCs were young and becoming close. I love friendship tropes like this where the relationship starts off cute and innocent in childhood and develops into something more. Then I stumbled upon this wholesome scene between the now older H Aiden, OW Crystal, and two guys from their work ~

“Twisting her nipples, Aidan watched as she did just that. Then, through the thin membrane of tissue, he felt Mack’s cock rub against his, pushing its way inside her pussy. Holy fuck. He’d never felt anything this good.
He was so not attracted to men, but between the tight fit with two big cocks inside her, the sensation of Mack’s dick rubbing against his, and the sound of Crystal gagging on Scooter, he was going to blow like a freight train. Aidan knew right then he really was a freak, because he loved this shit and he hoped they’d do it again. And often.”

Of course, I didn’t mention the fact that before this I had to read about how badly he wanted to “fuck Nicole’s brains out”. Nicole was a different girl. Who was his girlfriend. Who he introduced to his family. Who wasn’t the h. See what I’m getting at here? No shame in reading about group sex or OW if that is your thing. But it doesn’t happen to be mine, and there were no trigger warnings for this. I might expect it in an erotica, but not a so-called romance about forbidden love between two step siblings who are soulmates and pine after each other. It makes me wonder if the author knows who her audience is.

In general, I just didn’t like the character development of the H. Aidan started off as a shy boy who witnessed an unthinkable event that left him unable to speak. He was the town pariah because everyone thought of him as a loner freak. I expected him to grow up hot but unable to fuck girls because they find him scary or creepy (my favorite kind of H), but instead he was bagging them left and right. His character was just gross and not endearing in the slightest. Of course the h Molly remained pure for him and even got along with the girl he had the foursome with because it was only sex to the girl and she know Aiden belonged to Molly. How touching. I do love gritty and realistic romances, and I know an H saving himself isn’t always realistic. But why does it need to be on page and explicit? I don’t care what the context is, I’m never going to enjoy a romance where either character thinks about how badly they want to fuck ow/om.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. I love my heroes on either end of the spectrum - virginal sweethearts or bloodthirsty murderous psychopaths. I rarely enjoy anything in between. This book just wasn’t romantic to me at all and felt like a waste of time.

This had the potential of being an emotional book for me. The beginning was beautifully written and emotionally driven, but the more the story went on the the characters grew up, things just got messy. The emotional attachment I had at the start dissipated and certain parts of the story just fell really flat for me. I ended up hating where the story ended, the characters' emotions felt forced and dramatized, and I lost the enjoyment for the story.

This is an emotionally charged, incredible, and captivating story of loss, of tragedy, of hurt, of sexual exploration, of trying to do “the right thing” according to societal expectations, and most importantly, it’s a beautiful story of true love.

The storyline is fabulous. It has intrigue and steam galore! It is honestly addictive, and I certainly did not want it to end! But alas, all good things must come to an end, and what a wonderful ending it was.

I simply fell in love with the characters. The characters and character development are brilliant! I can honestly say that I loved every single character, aside from the character that was meant to be loathed.

I definitely recommend this book and would love to see more stories from this world!

My heart is full and erratically beating after reading this story. Aidan has been through a very traumatic and emotionally devastating loss after the death of his mom but when Molly enters his life as his new stepsister he loves her and vows to protect her from the moment they meet.
Molly and Aidan’s journey is filled with so much love and a sense of family and belonging to something remarkable. But their relationship is frowned upon and is perceived as wrong.
And I loved the appearance of Bo!!
Dyan Layne has given us another amazing story of love, hope, and togetherness.

Aiden & Molly love story is beautiful written. Again Dyan know how to bring a fantastic love story and a inspirational story to nor give up !! Which is a very important message and finding love is a bonus.

This is a forbidden romance because Molly and Aiden are step sibling. There are so many moments were you can truely feel that love they truely have for one another. However can you keep it hidden...no spoilers

🎈 Happy Birthday what will you wish for? A sweet moment of blowing out candle is such a innocent moment and wonderment on what the birthday girl is really wishing for...no spoilers

Aidan we learn straight away that he has a upsetting past and how does it link with him now and how does it affect his life...no spoilers Molly stands by him and she loves him no matter what...

This book will put your heart through the works and I PROMISE will put it back togther again. My fav chapter is the Epilogue, I love a happy ending 💞🎈

Author Dyan Layne has me speechless after reading this story about Molly & Aidan!

I loved it!

My heart fell hard for Aidan.
I felt his lost, his pain, and why his love for Molly was so strong.

Molly had me loving her instantly and I felt her pain as she went through the motions of Aidan trying not to give into their forbidden romance but I loved how she did not give up on them.

This book has a good combination of heartbreak, forbidden love, tragedy and learning that "The Heart knows what it wants" and it will win when you realize to capture it and never let go.

Molly & Aidan's journey in their forbidden love had me addicted from the first to the last page.

Tons of twists with these characters and loved seeing their development from kids into adults.

When they become adults, it gets spicy & totally had my cherries in a bunch!

I totally didn't  want it to end!

Go grab this Top 2022 Must Read book!

Don't Speak is a coming-of-age love story in the purest and most innocent form. It's true to life, raw, honest, and often heartbreaking yet heartwarming. I slowly fell in love with Aiden and Molly as their love grew and transformed. Their struggles, heartaches, and life experiences only enhanced the story.

I could not put this book down once I started reading. I devoured it in just a few hours. I loved the array of characters that we met and fell in love with throughout the story, and I hope the author sees fit to revisit Oceanview Beach in the future.

I loved the little glimpse of Bo and the mention of Venery from the Red Door series.

My only wish is that we'd had more time to get to know a few of the characters. The story felt rushed in some aspects, or maybe I just loved this town and didn't want to leave it so soon. I'll be re-reading it again soon. If you have not read Dyan Layne's Red Door series, I highly recommend it!

Stepbrother romances have always been my secret favorites and I loved everything about Molly and Aiden’s story! This is the first book I’ve read by Dyan Lane and I loved it! Usually, 3rd person POV isn’t my favorite, but she did a great job of telling the story from both characters’ sides.

I loved how we got to know Molly and Aiden from the time they were kids and I felt like I was there with them as their feelings for each other changed. They have an immediate connection, and she gets him more than anyone else does, even if he can’t speak. Both of these characters are so tortured and by trying to keep his distance, Aiden breaks both of their hearts.

There was an unexpected twist in this story that could have gone badly. But thankfully, this story has a wonderful ending and it left me feeling all warm and fuzzy.

I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily left a review.

After reading the Red Door Series, Dyan is one of my favorite authors, and Dont Speak is just another fantastic book that I couldn't put down.
This story is emotional and, at the same time, so good and well written. You all need this book because it is AMAZING! And in the end, love always prevails no matter what society thinks.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

The good
+ Molly accepting Aidan with all his quirks right from the beginning
+ Molly never feeling like Aidan is not good enough because he doesn't speak
+ How deeply they both love each other
+ The way, in the end, they fight for each other
+ Grandma Ginny

The neutral
o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased
o The first time Aidan and Molly engage in sexual behavior, Molly is only fourteen. Their encounter happens on-page
o There were no detailed trigger warnings at the start of the book. With the content of this book, I think it would have been fitting had they been there. For your information, this book contains mention and depiction of rape, non-consensual touching of a minor by someone who was or maybe wasn't yet eighteen, sexual behavior between an eighteen-year-old (not the MC) and a minor, graphic sex between minors, graphic description of murder by stabbing, death of a side character's love interest
o I am not a doctor, so I don't really know how this really works. But Aidan didn't speak for over fifteen years, then started again suddenly. He was immediately able to speak in full sentences, and everyone could understand him. Were his vocal cords really that good? And he remembered how to speak at all?

The bad
- Aidan hurt Molly deeply and it did not sit well with me
- Molly forgave Aidan way too easily and too soon
- There was graphic, on-page sex between Aidan and people who were not Molly, even as far as an on-page foursome. That was completely unnecessary
- Aidan shouldn't have been having sex with anyone anyway. He loved Molly deeply and I felt that his behavior made his feelings seem like a farce
- Trevor touched Molly without her permission and got away with it. Then he left and was never mentioned again. He was a weird and unnecessary addition to the book
- They kept their relationship a secret because they were afraid of backlash. Then when it all came out, the reactions of those who had expressed a negative attitude before (for example Gabby) weren't even shown. There was no real aftermath
-

I really liked the idea of this book. I had expected a secret relationship that eventually came out, and them dealing with the aftermath together. Instead, they spent a large portion of the book apart from each other and very, very hurt. Aidan needs to do some more groveling for me. However, their love ran very deep and I'm glad they're together now. They fit together.

Fasten your seatbelt and brace your heart. Dyan Layne is going to take you on an epic emotional rollercoaster in Don't Speak. This new adult forbidden romance was heart wrenching and packed so much powerful feels. She broke me over and over again. A must read for every angst lover.

Molly moved to Ocean side after her mother got remarried to Brian Fischer. And there she meets her new stepbrother Aidan. He is called the freak by others as he hasn't spoken a word since witnessing his mother's tragic murder five years back. He has selective mutism. And she decides she will be his best friend. They find this special instant connection. Years pass. They become teens and older. And their friendship is more now. They are in love. But they can't be together. So Aidan knows he has to break both of their hearts. But heartbreak don't eliminate love.

This is a very complex story with so many layers. It is spread across years so it was interesting to see the characters grow and evolve. Aidan is broken. At least he feels so. He has been living this isolated life till Molly appeared and she made his heart beat again. His love for Molly is something intense, raw and out of this world. He can do anything for her happiness even it means dying slowly inside. The pain and anger transformed him a lot. He grew hard and rough and I loved the new Aidan. It made him stronger and more assertive and he finally claimed his love. Molly is just an amazing character. She has the biggest and softest heart. She embraced Aidan with all his so called flaws and made him feel alive. My heart was breaking for her when they were going through the emotional hell. It was just so so angsty! The angry bitter hopeless time. The reckless sizzling hot passion. And all the twists you can think of. The author stunned me by her deep storytelling. It was just mesmerising to read about the pieces coming together. It was definitely not an easy journey. But no epic love is simple. The author beautifully showed the all consuming connection between Aidan and Molly.

"Aiden didn’t know you could love a person like that. Instant and infinite. He did, though. In the space of a week, his spitfire of a little sister captured his heart and had him wrapped around her pinky finger."

If you know me at all, then you know I’m a sucker for anything forbidden and/or taboo in romance. This book checked ALL of my boxes. Holy Hot Mama!! This was a forbidden story about a stepbrother and stepsister falling in love. Except…was it? It was instalove, in my opinion, and the story itself was built around the ideas of growing up, healing from trauma, and discovering what true love means when everything is trying to tear you apart. This story was beautiful, and heartbreaking; it was angsty and passionate. I loved that it pushed limits on what we deem “socially acceptable” in terms of relationships and love. But that’s what our incredibly talented author, Dyan Layne, always does, right? She pushes boundaries and explores nuances that others aren’t brave enough to!

Our story revolves around Aiden and Molly. Their parents get married when these two are very young, so they grow up just like a brother and sister would. Except these two have a very special bond and have never truly seen the other as just a brother or sister. When Aiden was five he stopped speaking. When I was first reading, I thought it might have been Selective Mutism, as I’ve read about characters with that condition before, but he has something called Psychogenic Mutism. When he meets Molly, they are immediately drawn to each other. The bond was so precious at such a young age. Their feelings develop as these two get older, but their love never fades. They have always been “the one” for each other. In this story, Aiden is 3 years older than Molly (I think) so as they age and hit puberty at different times, they have to combat their sexual feelings while still living under the same roof. We know, as the reader, that most people have issues with these sorts of “taboo” relationships, so we expect our characters to receive a lot of pushback from their friends and family.

One of the things I loved about this book was that our characters embraced sexuality and didn’t allow it to limit them. There was never a time when purity played a key role and I loved the different approach Aiden took to the role of sex in his life. Of course, the sex scenes DELIVER – because when do they not with Dyan Layne?? Gold. So hot. *fanning myself* I also really enjoyed the bit of suspense that was added to this story. It upped the stakes and created an extra layer of tension towards the end of the book. I knew it was coming, but I had no idea what to expect when the fourth act conflict finally happened! Goodness, I loved this book. I never feel like my reviews do enough justice for Dyan Layne’s books, but to say I am pleased is an understatement. This is another win!! Bravo!! ❤ 5 stars!

As always, Dyan’s book has left me speechless ❤️ I am so obsessed with her writing and the worlds she creates. RTC!! You do NOT want to miss out on this book, friends!

Another absolutely amazing story by Dyan Layne!!

This forbidden romance has so much heart in it. It's emotional, forbidden, angsty, totally delicious and pack with mystery and heart stroking moments.

Aidan and Molly were put in each others lives when they needed each other the most. From childhood they were the best friends and step siblings ever. They got each other in a way that was special and beautiful. But as they grow together also their feelings for each others changed and their easy going made an abrupt stop after their first kiss.

Aiden has suffer trauma, a real tragedy that affected him and robing him of been able to speak. When he realises that the love he feels for Molly is something that can cause her harm he changes into this person that Molly doesn't recognise any more.

Molly suffers a heartbreak like no other, my heart suffered and cried for her.

Aidan and Molly's story is a beautiful one. Don't miss reading this fantastic story of love, heartbreak and healing because these two shattered my heart but also put piece by piece together.

Don’t Speak is the story of Aiden, who has elective mutism due to trauma he experienced as a child, and Molly who becomes his younger stepsister.

They instantly form a bond, and it is so precious how they are there for each other. Until they grow older, and teenage emotions start getting in the way making things complicated. As Molly’s Gigi would say, there’s a storm coming. Speaking of Gigi, I absolutely loved her character and the advice she’d give to both Aiden and Molly.

Not going to lie, I really started to hate Aiden just a little. My heart was breaking right along with Molly’s. I think what I love the most though was how her heart knew what it wanted and she never truly gave up on Aiden.
They were definitely going to have some challenges headed their way, but the moment Aiden stood up for himself was perfection!
I definitely need tissues handy for this one.

It’s difficult to rate the spice this one. There is a bit of teenage angst, but nothing too intense until they are adults.

Oh also, if you’re familiar with Dyan’s Red Door Series, you’re going to love a couple of pieces she gave us.

The highly anticipated wait for this book was delivered! Dyan has done it again with one amazing story!

I love the little Easter eggs from the red door series 😘

Don’t speak is a standalone and you will absolutely fall in love with Aidan and Molly!

This is a stepbrother romance but also wanting to live up to society’s expectations and not allow the love to happen.
This book will have you turning the pages from the very beginning.

Aidan who is an elective mute due to some trauma he witnessed he’s kind of an outsider but
Molly entered into Aidan life at the perfect time. She sees him and understands him like no one else. Their love for each other you can feel the connection between them.
Their story didn’t come without there complications but they are so worth it. All love is work and worth fighting for, Molly and Aidan did just that!

If this isn’t one your TBR what are you waiting for honestly again Dyan has created another beautiful story!

I could stop reading once I started reading and loved the first page to the last. The instant connection between Aiden and Molly brought together by their parents. This is a step sibling romance with lots of twists, love, passion, emotionally heart breaking moments (bring out the tissues lovelies) and sizzling scenes that are panty dripping good. I couldn’t put this book down not for a moment and I felt every bit of emotion shared between these two. I absolutely loved this book and could read it over and over again. I love how dyan had stepped out and done a standalone with a twist. The more I read by dyan the more I love her writing and I look forward to the next book she writes.

Oh my, this book really warmed my heart and made me so happy! I didn’t realize how much I needed this story. I’ve been reading a lot of heavier or darker romances and this story was so pure and sweet it was like a breath of fresh air. Molly and Aidan were everything and reading their story from childhood up was so sweet! They definitely had their challenges when they got older and their relationship changed. I had a lot of moments where I wanted to punch Aidan but he came through. I love this book!!

Molly and Aidan’s story.

This read is about two kids who’ve loved each other since they were 7 and 10 years old and we follow their lives until they’re 18 and 21. As they get older Aidan decides they can’t be together without explaining his reasons and just ghosts Molly. Years later he changes his mind and vows to win her back.
The story itself starts off well and ends happily ever after but the middle was just fill until they get back together. I didn’t not like Don’t Speak but for me this trope has become a little redundant now.

3-3.5 stars. The story started out strong with a good foundation for the relationship development between Aidan and Molly originating in childhood. I liked their dynamic and then the resulting angst later on. But then there were parts where the building anticipation was high and the result was kind of flat. Additionally, some red herrings and left field curveballs got thrown in, but rather than make things more interesting, I felt like they derailed the main plot points and removed the focus to something less relevant, deflating the overall momentum. I was more ambivalent towards the end compared to the beginning.
